Here we are again, a Natale. We Italo-americani o Italiani. I imagine that Italians who live abroad have this deep sense of loss, because they can't spend this time in famiglia. I wonder if any one of you have been to Anghiari. It is an enchanting medieval village nestled in Northern Tuscany/Umbria. The new part of it is relatively flat, but then it rises up to form a typical "presepio"-type scene. Actually, we went there from Monterchi and followed along the plans where the famous Battle of Anghiari took place. This morning's NY Times had an interesting article about a genealogist, Michael Hirsch, who spent years trying to trace the identity of the last seven unknown victims of that tragic fire of March 25, l9ll. Using census records, old newspaper articles and making visits to the old cemeteries that surround the city, he was able to complete the task. Often he was stymied by misspellings of names. Other times the mysteries revealed themselves solvable by taking a closer look at the tombstones. …See More

Today, after reading a New York Times article about Guitar Heroes: Legendary Craftsmen from New York to Italy, I just had to see it. Believe me, this exhibit does not disappoint. There is a beautiful contrast from the l8th century masters in Italy, both from the North (Cremona) and South (Napoli), and the masters of the l9th and 20th century that brought their skills from Italy and passed the knowledge down to their families and apprentices. - I owned a small real estate company on Long Island, but now I am retired. My husband and I travel to Italy at least two times a year, and I have a lot of family in the South. Both of us are active members of the Italian Cultural Society and the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo`, and I am a member of NIAF and IACE. We love all things Italian and look forward to being a part of this great new site. I am trying to obtain Italian citizenship, but I am encountering great difficulties, because I was adopted by my parents at 9 months of age. I am Italian by blood.
